Fatal accident involves military vehicle, sedan

COUNTY — On State Route 46 at David Road before the Cholame Y, a fatal accident occurred Wednesday, July 25, morning involving a military tactical vehicle and a car, as reported by California Highway Patrol.
The driver, Cecil Gabriel Johnson, a 49 year-old Army Reserve sergeant from San Bernardino was driving a large 2007 M1078 Tactical Vehicle in a military convoy eastbound on State Route 46 at Davis Road, going approximately 50 mph when the driver, of a 2000 Acura 3.2TL, Chan Kee Chung, a 58-year-old male from Rowland Heights, was driving westbound at 55 mph when the tactical vehicle’s left front tire went flat and suddenly failed, sending the vehicle across the double yellow center lines into the westbound lane of traffic.
The tactical vehicle and the Acura struck head-on causing a fatal injury to Chung.  The passenger in the military truck, Christina R. Astorga, a 24-year-old Army Reserve Specialist from Los Angeles, suffered minor injuries along with the driver. Both reservists were sent to Twin Cities Community Hospital for treatment. Alcohol and or drugs did not contribute to this collision.
