Ellen Englke was born in Paso Robles on Sept. 18, 1930, and she passed away on Oct. 25, 2018. Ellen grew up on the family ranch in Shandon. She graduated from Shandon High School in 1948 where she played the piano in the orchestra. Ellen married Clayton Scovell in 1948. In 1967 they moved to Morro Bay where they ran the A&W Root Beer.
Upon retirement, they moved to Atascadero where they grew flowers, mostly Dahlias. She was known as the Flower Lady at the Templeton Farmer’s Market where she sold bouquets. Ellen’s other passion was entering flowers in the Mid-State Fair where she won numerous awards for her efforts.
She is survived by her sister Hilda Nelson; five children, Diana Imhoof (Frank), Liana Brigham (Jerry), Audrey Stirm (Jon), Roger (Helen), and Andy (Terrie); seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clayton and her sisters Dolly Schroeder and Betty Wicks.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Paso Robles Pioneer Museum. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
