PASO ROBLES — On Thursday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the El Camino Homeless Organization will once again host its highly anticipated Empty Bowls luncheon fundraiser.
The community luncheon, which is scheduled to be held at the Atascadero Bible Church located at 6225 Atascadero Ave., will feature a variety of handmade soups and artisan breads prepared by more than a dozen local chefs and restaurants.
Those who buy a ticket will not only be served by local celebrities including San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Ian Parkinson, Supervisors Debbie Arnold and John Preschong, Pastor Tom Ferrel of Atascadero Bible Church and several others, but they will also receive a beautiful bowl. The bowls will have been either hand-crafted by local artists and students from Atascadero and Paso Robles High Schools, Cuesta College and Atascadero Fine Arts Academy, or collected by an ECHO volunteer.
Those in attendance will be able to sample foods from all over SLO County, and will also receive hand-crafted home items and have the chance to participate in different raffles. Participating restaurants include Byblo's Mediterranean Grill, McPhee's Grill, Panolivo Family Bistro, South Bay Wild, and many more, while simultaneously raising funds for ECHO, an organization that brings awareness to the issue of hunger within the entire San Luis Obispo County community.
"This fundraiser is critical for the shelter's operation," Empty Bowls chairperson Sandy Edmunson said. "We hope people come out for a great community luncheon (of course,) but also to support the only homeless shelter in all of North County.
Although this is only one of the many annual events that ECHO hosts, in years past it has proven to be very successful. Last year's event alone raised approximately $27,000, all of which went directly toward ECHO's efforts to care for the homeless in the North County.
Tickets, which cost $25, can be purchased online at www.echoshelter.net, at the Atascadero Chamber of Commerce and several other locations throughout Atascadero.
