PASO ROBLES — An officer was injured during the pursuit of a stolen vehicle on April 5 in the North County.
At approximately 6:09 p.m. on Friday, April 5, a California Highway Patrol investigator observed a vehicle parked on Linne Road about 4 miles east of Paso Robles. The location of the parked vehicle was suspicious so the investigator contacted CHP dispatch and had them run the license plate number. The vehicle came back as stolen from Santa Maria. The investigator called for backup and CHP officers from Templeton responded.
Before Templeton CHP units arrived, the occupants of the stolen vehicle drove away westbound on Linne Road headed toward Paso Robles. A marked CHP unit set up at Penman Springs Road reported officials.
As the stolen vehicle passed by, the CHP unit pulled in behind the stolen vehicle and attempted to initiate an enforcement stop. The driver failed to yield and a pursuit ensued.
An additional marked CHP unit entered the chase at Linne and Frontage roads and the suspect continued westbound onto Sherwood Road where it turned southbound on Commerce Way. The suspect made a quick eastbound turn onto Scott Street and another quick turn southbound onto Driftwood Drive, CHP reported. The vehicle continued southbound and finally made a westbound turn onto Larkfield Place, which was a cul-de-sac and a dead end.
The suspect attempted to make a u-turn and CHP units were able to stop and contain the vehicle and the suspects within the cul-de-sac due to the suspect vehicle crashing into an undercover police vehicle and pining itself into a dirt embankment.
As a result of the crash, the investigating officer was injured.
The suspect and passenger were both taken into custody without further incident.
Marcos David Rodriguez, 40, of Santa Maria, was identified as the driver and arrested and charged with a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, felony evading causing injuries, and assault with a deadly weapon (vehicle). The passenger, Jessica Rose Gutierrez Moreno, 25, of Paso Robles was cited and released. Evidence located in the car was methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Rodriguez was booked into jail and bail was set at $50,000.
The injured investigating officer was treated and released from a local hospital, CHP officials reported.
