PASO ROBLES — Central Coast Creamery won three Gold Medals for Best of Category at the US Championship Cheese Contest in Madison, Wisconsin last week. Central Coast Creamery’s  Goat Cheddar, Seascape, and Ewereka were each awarded Best in Category and scored high enough to advance into the finals, reserved for the top 20 scoring cheeses.
The US Championship Cheese Contest is the largest technical dairy contest in the US and brings in big competition from across the country. Overall, 2555 kinds of cheese from 35 states entered into the competition. 60 judges spent 2 days evaluating entries, considering both technical and aesthetic qualities of each cheese, scoring on a 100-point scale.
“Of all the cheeses entered we are especially proud that these cheeses placed in the final 20. Ewereka was the only sheep milk cheese, Seascape was 1 of 2 mixed milk and Goat Cheddar was one of 2 goat milk cheese to advance,” says Reggie Jones, owner and head cheesemaker at Central Coast Creamery.
Jones, a cheese industry veteran, began his career in product development and quality control before opening his own cheese production facility. Using a combination of his cheese knowledge, and high quality, Central California milk, Jones is able to introduce unique and delicious cheese to the market.
