SAN LUIS OBISPO — Broadway by the Sea returns to the exclusive Chapman Estate with seven vocalists belting out popular show tunes. After 22 years of staging this production at the elegant seaside manor in Shell Beach, Opera San Luis Obispo (OperaSLO) is adding Broadway on the Lake at the Atascadero Lake Pavilion.

“We’ve had so many people ask us to please bring the show over the grade,” said Jayne Cohen, event chair. “The Atascadero event is going to be a little different than what we do at the Chapman Estate, but it’s the same great show.”

This year the live concert includes nationally acclaimed performers singing Broadway hits from “Guys and Dolls,” “Carousel,” “Music Man,” “Show Boat,” “Into the Woods,” “Company,” and more. Soprano Katie McTyre, baritone Bryden Hade, and pianist Chris Wade are making their OperaSLO debut. They join returning favorites tenor Drew Schufman, soprano Shira Renee Thomas (Magic Flute, 2018), and tenor Dylan F. Thomas (Magic Flute, Oklahoma!, 2018)

Both concerts will also feature two local talents — Katie Rowan, 14, Paso Robles High School, and Elizabeth Umphenour, 15, Atascadero High School. Katie has been singing opera since she was 5 years old; Elizabeth fell in love with musical theater when she was just 4.

“Both of these young ladies have magnificent voices and great talent. As an organization, we believe it is very important to mentor and nurture the next generation,” said Brian Asher Alhadeff, OperaSLO Artistic and General Director. “This is also a special learning opportunity for both students since they will be able to work alongside professional singers. We hope music lovers come out to support both of these young, local artists, as well as experience a fantastic show.”
