Billy Joe “Bill” Wyche went to be with the Lord Friday, Feb. 2, 2018 in San Luis Obispo.
He was born in 1932 in Kennedy, Texas, to William and Martha Wyche and raised with his two brothers, Kenneth and Carrol. Bill graduated high school in 1951 and attended Texas A&I University. He was drafted into the US Army and served proudly as a radar man during the latter part of the Korean War.
After his military service, Bill began his career as a Union Electrician. He married his first wife, Dorothy Jean (nee King) Oct. 10, 1959. After her death in 1981, Bill married his current wife, Lois (nee Schermerhorn), on Sept. 4, 1983.
Bill moved to Santa Barbara in 1961 to find work and his family followed in 1962. He took part in several major building and remodel projects in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties, including Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant, Twin Cities Community Hospital, Atascadero State Hospital and the Space Shuttle and missile launch sites at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Settling in Atascadero he retired after 44 years as a Journey-Level electrician and enjoyed time with his family, volunteering and fellowship at his church, and the outdoors. You could usually find him outside or in his workshop and he had an avid love for fishing, gardening, making things, and overall tinkering.
Bill had a passion and pure love for God and the Lord, Jesus Christ.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents; and brothers. Bill is survived by his wife, Lois; Sons Mark (Thelma) Thompson and Gregory (Susie) Wyche; Daughters Lorena (Jim) Scrivner and Carla (Michael) Morris; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
A memorial is planned at Father’s House Church, 2100 Ramona Rd in Atascadero on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to a hospice of choice.
