PASO ROBLES — “The Adventure Continues…” at the 70th Annual California Mid-State Fair, happening from July 20 to July 31 and offering something fun for everyone. There are some new features and events to look for this year as well as the old favorites like the free Pancake Breakfast and the Apple Pie Competition.

According to El Paso De Robles Historical Society Docent Mike Harris, the fair first opened in 1946 and was then called the San Luis Obispo County Fair.

“Today we call it the California Mid-State Fair and it runs for 12 days at the end of July,” Harris said. “It has changed a lot over the years, but still offers that hometown feel and here in Paso Robles we have kept the old traditions alive. So the fair is special to our community.”

Harris said that his first memory at the fair was in 1959 when he was just a kid and as a local it is those memories and fair experiences that keep himself and locals like him coming back year after year.
