Valentine's movie night: ‘The Philadelphia Story’ coming to Park Cinemas

Posted: Thursday, Feb 9th, 2017

PASO ROBLES — This Valentine’s weekend treat the ones you hold near and dear to your heart to a fun-filled night out on the town at the annual Paso Robles Valentine’s Movie Night.

“There is always something exciting to do and see in downtown Paso Robles, and February, a month known for (its celebration of) pure and simple love, is no exception,” said Paso Robles Main Street Association Executive Director Norma Moye.

On Sunday, Feb. 12, Paso Robles’ historic Park Cinemas, located in the heart of downtown at 1100 Pine St., will feature a 7 p.m. screening of the 1940 original film “The Philadelphia Story.”

This classic American romantic comedy, directed by George Cukor, stars favorite actors and actresses Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn and James Stewart. A major box office success after earning six Academy Award nominations, “The Philadelphia Story” focuses on love and marriage, human growth and class distinctions all in one. Based around a messy, impending marriage and a time of complete upheaval, the film touches on how the rich upper class have slowly become blinded to the simple, yet equally important, things in life.

A proud Paso Robles advocate, the Main Street Association takes pride in all things big and small whether that be a shop, restaurant, venue, experience or mere feeling — love included, Moye said. In fact, love, a completely overwhelming and blinding feeling of self discovery, is so powerful a worldliness that the Main Street Association hopes to share it with community members from both near and far, old and young alike.

Admission to the event costs $12 and includes either popcorn and soda or champagne and chocolates.

“Awards, both funny and serious, will also be presented,” Moye said. “Titles include examples such as ‘Married for the Longest’ or ‘Have the Most Children.’”

The event, which is open to all ages, is sure to be a romantic night for all. For more information, visit pasoroblesdowntown.org.
